GRIZZLY ATTACKS "A LARGE GROUP"
(Investigator 227, 2026 March)
The biblical
story of two "she bears" mauling 42 boys (II kings 2:23-24) is
sometimes queried as improbable — because most documented bear attacks
in modern times were on one, two or sometimes three people.
However, in
2025 a grizzly bear attacked twenty 4th and 5th grade students and
their teachers from a Nuxalk First Nation school during a school
excursion in British Columbia. The November 19 attack occurred at Bella
Coola, 700 km northwest of Vancouver. The teachers fought back with
bear spray and a male teacher was critically injured. Of 11 people
injured four were taken to a hospital. Kevin Van Damme, Conservation
Officer, said that in 34 years he had not heard of a bear attack on
"such a large group of people."
The biblical bear attack (II Kings 2) was debated in Investigator 217-221 & 223.
